We’re sad to report that we were broken into – not once but twice – this weekend, by groups of teenagers who have smashed up our polytunnel. After volunteers discovered and then cleaned up the first lot of vandalism on Sunday morning, we had a second round of destruction on Sunday late afternoon.

They’ve smashed up 90% of the plants we’ve been growing for months from seed – many of which have been planted by young children who were eagerly waiting to plant them out. Broken a number of things including our potting bench. Tipped over everything they could and thrown all our children’s toys about.
We don’t want this to be a story of destruction or anger at teenagers though. We are taking it seriously, but balanced with knowing that teenagers sometimes do daft things, sometimes do malicious things and sometimes have sad stories themselves.
The beautiful thing about our community is that within hours we’d managed to get cleaned up with lots of people coming down to help. Thank you to all our neighbours too who keep an eye on the Green and have been letting us know when they have seen something concerning.
What now?
We keep going! We have so much happening at Bluebell Green. Here’s our timetable if you’d like to come along for a session or get more involved.
We’re on the look out for replacement plants (mostly veg to plant out). If you have any spares and can drop them off to us we’d really appreciate it. Please get in touch through Instagram, the facebook group or our email friendsofchapelstreetpark@gmail.com
If you already do come and can bung us a fiver or more to help replace the lost plants and broken things here’s where you can donate. We are completely volunteer run and all the money we raise goes into making Bluebell Green even more special.
So although pretty rubbish we’ve had this happen, the community spirit that makes Bluebell Green so wonderful is alive and kicking. Thank you 💚
